When you were little, and it was your birthday, did you always know what presents you wanted?
Didn’t you know, as a kid, what your favorite things would be? Whether it was roller skates, or an Easybake oven, or a Legos set, or a Transformer, or a superhero cake …
We knew as kids what favorite things would delight us, right?
And did you imagine that when you were the adult, when you were the one in charge making the decisions and holding the money, didn’t you imagine that you would have what you wanted?
Whether that was the case for you or not, here’s what I do know …
I talk to a lot of conscious creators who are not treating themselves very well at all when their birthdays roll around.
Many times when clients tell me it was their birthday and I ask what they did for it, they don’t have strong answers. Maybe dinner with a sweetie, or drinks with a friend. Mostly they tell me they don’t make a big deal of their birthday.
That’s fine, you don’t have to if you don’t feel like it …
But let’s remember that universe can only be as good to us as we are to ourselves!
What kind of precedent are we setting for the new year when we don’t treat ourselves well on our one most special day?
If it’s not a big deal for you, how do you expect the rest of the world to do right by you? When you’re setting such a low bar example!
And honestly, this isn’t something we should be doing one day a year. This is worth being good at every single day!
Every day asking yourself what you want and finding a way to give that to yourself. Because if you’re holding out on yourself you make it really hard for the rest of the world to deliver the goods.
Do you know how to be good to yourself? I know you know how to be good to me. You send the nice cards and the nice emails and post the generous reviews. Do you know how to turn that same love on yourself?
I’m not saying you have to make a big deal of your birthday, because honestly, I’d like to see you be good to yourself every day, not just on your birthday. But you gotta start somewhere, right? How about today?
How about today?! 🙂
