The spiritual meaning of the Ankh

The spiritual meaning of the Ankh

The Ankh is an ancient symbol. Like many symbols, the Ankh does not have one fixed spiritual meaning.
The sacred geometry of the Ankh can be interpreted in many ways, depending on the movement and zeitgeist in which you look up the symbol. The spiritual meaning of the Ankh does not exist, but it is seen as eternal life, a healing tool, the key to the kingdom of the dead… and much more. In this article you will read more about the spiritual meanings of the Ankh.

Contemporary interpretations of Ankh symbolism

The Ankh looks like a loop, with a stripe underneath, two arms and a stick-shaped base. With the loop as the upper part, the Ankh is distinguished from a Celtic cross, or, one might argue, a Christian cross, but the cross symbol existed before Christianity. This loop, according to some people, symbolizes the womb, divine womanhood and women.

Ankh

The spiritual significance of the Ankh has its origins in stories of Isis and Osiris.
In Egyptian mythology, Isis stands for fertility, among other things; she would be represented by the Ankh through the loop shape. Osiris represents the heavens and the masculine, and T-cross of the Ankh is said to symbolize his gender.
In the sacred geometry of the Ankh, heavenly and earthly fertility come together. Therefore, it is seen as a symbol of eternal life.

Electricity

If you look closely at the drawing of an Ankh, the loop and arms of the Ankh together form an omega/Ohm sign. Electricity today is measured in Watts and Ohms.
In this story, the Ankh has not so much a spiritual significance as it may have been a tool for conducting electricity. The long part of the Ankh, is a handle.
What about in combination with the powerful geometric shape of the pyramid? Would they have been able to capture solar energy? And if the Ankh was used to generate electricity, does the Ankh have any spiritual significance? Or is it just like a power plant as we know it today: normal and not special?

A gift from the gods?

Anthropologists and archaeologists have been investigating the possibility of whether the Egyptians already had electricity. We are talking about thousands of years ago, in the area of Old-Kemet/Old-Egypt, where many of our ancestors came from.
Many times Egyptian gods are depicted with an Ankh. Just look up the Internet: the Gods carry the Ankh with their hand through the loop (see Wikipedia pages of Thoth, Bastet, Sekhmet and Hathor, for example).

Were the Gods actually the only ones who could hold electricity through the Ankh? Was their system developed in such a way that they could generate and contain electricity? Would they have shared the “magic” of electricity with humans? Or did they gift electricity to humans, and take it away again?

Many questions surrounding electricity, the Ankh and Egyptians remain unanswered. But fortunately we can focus on the spiritual meaning of the Ankh as a symbol and healing tool.

What other spiritual meanings does the Ankh symbol have?

In the sacred geometry of the Ankh, creative and cosmic forces are brought together. The tool acts as an amplifier of the energy that is already there and can also be a channel to capture, conduct, and allow energy to flow outward or into itself.
The Egyptian gods carry the Ankh in their hands, holding it like a scepter. It symbolizes initiation and transformation… and so does a transformation from death to life….

The Ankh as a Key Gate

Thus, the Ankh could be a key, a gateway to the realm of the dead. It is said that the Ankh was used in necromancy. The Ankh tool was held under the nose of mortals to revive them.

Several images show someone looking through the loop of the Ankh to the dead or the (subtle, “invisible”) Gods. Perhaps it is a loop to look at the other worlds? Possibly the veil between here and now and the afterlife was thinner than we thought, and the Gods lived with the ancient Egyptians on Earth, cooperating and at war with each other, healing and destroying….

Just as the Ankh can be used to heal, it can simultaneously be a tool for letting go of life. The Ankh cannot be labeled as good or bad, its effect depends on the intention with which it is operated.

The Ankh as a Healing Tool

In terms of healing, the Ankh could stand for life force, the life force that provides us with the breath of life (oxygen).

Today, the Ankh is used by therapists to remove disease from the energy system and to improve health.

The Ankh loop has an attracting effect, which allows blockages from chakras to be removed, thereby allowing the person’s life energy to flow freely. The loop attracts energy and the Ankh legs can be used to direct the energy, or just as a handle to hold. Among other things, Malva therapy uses the Ankh as a physical tool.

Physical or energetic symbol?

It is unclear if the Ankh in its sacred geometry was ever found in physical form. You can buy them on the market in all kinds of metals: bronze, copper, gold, silver… You could also use the Ankh as an energetic symbol, by visualizing it clearly. Know what you are doing, because it is a powerful and widely used symbol!

This image shows an electrical device as it was used in the past. The device had voltage capabilities up to 110 Volts with a wattage of 25 Watts. As you can see, the electricity forms a primary and secondary circuit. The device and the electric current together form the sacred geometric shape of the Ankh. Coincidence, or not?

The spiritual effect of the Ankh as a piece of jewelry

The Ankh is an amplifier of your energy and gives a powerful boost to your aura and light bodies.

When you wear an Ankh on your chest, it strengthens your heart chakra. It strengthens your passion and helps you act on your heart’s desires. Or perhaps you prefer to have the Ankh higher, at your throat (chakra). Then it helps you to keep communication open and honest.
If you wear the Ankh in your ears as earrings, then it will strengthen your (inner) hearing, listening to your intuition and clairaudience.

The double Ankh that can be found in our jewelry gives more than double the power. It puts down a powerhouse of energy that reaches deep into the cosmos as well as deep into the earth.
